Happy Mother's Day to each and every one of you who serve in a nurturing capacity.
I had a very brief chat online with a lady today. Our families share two great-grandmothers who were sisters. She was saying how she wished she could have known the sisters as they have left such a beautiful legacy.
That ties right in with my feelings about tracing family history. I praise the Lord for each new person I find to put on our family tree.
I heard a pastor online last week, not our own, who was saying how he really didn't care what his ancestry or genealogy was because all he cared about was his relationship with the Lord. Well that of course is all well and good, but I did feel a little sad for him.
Of course I put God and His Word first, but I must admit that I do take comfort in and draw inspiration from the life stories of those who have gone before us and passed down the heritage of faith.
Some of those stories are great sweeping sagas that are just amazing, like our ancestors from northeastern Germany who were among the thousands of Old Lutherans who suffered much and left all to come to the US for the sake of their beliefs. Another example would be our Huguenot relatives who fled France on pain of death for their faith. Nonetheless inspiring are those people who bloomed where they were planted, quietly letting their Gospel lights shine down through the years.
On this Mother's Day we thank the Lord for all who have in one way or another nurtured us in body and soul.
